History of the Toy Run

The Newcastle Toy Run is the longest continuously running Toy Run in Australia! It is the ONLY Road & Maritime approved and Police escorted ride of its kind. The event commenced in 1978 with around 20 bikes. The event is now in its 38th year and sees around 10,000 riders of all ages and all types of motor cycles take part.  The Bikers For Kids Toy Run is an inconic Newcastle event and takes place the 1st Sunday of December each year.

The ride itself now starts at Stockton Foreshore and travels 25 kilometres to the Newcastle Foreshore.  Spectators watch as thousands of riders leave Stockton and arrive at the Foreshore Park whilst the last riders are still leaving Stockton.

The Toy Run is totally focussed on providing toys and support for Hunter kids and families at Christmas time. For the last 34 years, the Toy Run has been donating all proceeds from the day to The Salvation Army, Newcastle which assists families in need with presents, food and vouchers at Christmas.

In 2014. an estimated 18000 people attended the Newcastle Foreshore activities where Toys and Donations are given to The Salvation Army and entertainment, food & market stalls are available, and where Harley and Trike rides can be purchased for an immediate ride or booked for those special occasions. The whole day is an amazing community event designed to bring people and families together to share in the one goal, that of assisting other families thorugh the Christmas period.

The Newcastle Toy Run is supported by the Road and Maritime Service, the NSW Police, and the Newcastle City Council, together with a number of Corporate Sponsors.

It's a great event - so don't miss out!  Join the ride with 10,000 other riders, or join the spectators and families at Newcastle Foreshore, Donate Generously and enjoy the whole  experience of Motorbikes, Toys, and Giving.
